Our Story

Built Through Experience.
Growing Through Innovation.

From a pioneering South African mushroom farm to a three-farm group supplying customers nationally.

“Quality mushrooms grown by passionate people, for you.”

A Journey Beginning in 1979

Highveld Mushrooms was founded by Chris Richardson and Colin Jacobson with the original intention of supplying the mushroom-processing industry. The farm began by producing approximately four tons per week and pioneered the use of chicken manure and other agricultural inputs in its compost rather than relying on horse manure.

As demand changed, the company moved increasingly toward fresh mushrooms. Over the following decades, it expanded its farming footprint, strengthened its retail relationships and invested in increasingly advanced composting and growing technology.
