The New York market
Demand splits by borough, and the boroughs do not resemble each other.
Manhattan is finance, law, media and B2B services, and it competes on terms that cost real money — the names setting the pace are JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Bloomberg and Warner Bros. Discovery, and the suppliers selling into them are chasing the same keywords. Brooklyn is hospitality, retail and a fast-growing technology and creative scene, with Etsy and a deep bench of smaller product companies. Queens carries JFK, air freight and one of the most linguistically diverse small-business economies in the country. The Bronx is healthcare, trades and neighbourhood retail. Staten Island is local trades and services. Healthcare is its own market across the city, anchored by Mount Sinai, NYU Langone and Memorial Sloan Kettering. On top of the five boroughs sits a tri-state commuter layer — Jersey City, Newark, Long Island, Westchester — that searches New York terms from outside the city line.
That layering is the opening. Most competitors publish one New York page and hope, so it speaks to nobody in particular. A restaurant in Astoria and a law firm on Madison Avenue are not chasing the same search, and a page built for one of them will not rank for the other.
We do not guess at this. The first month goes into your site, your competitors and your call data, and the ongoing quote follows what that actually showed.
